Midnight Club: Street Racing came out October of 2000 by Angel Studios under the Rockstar brand. It introduced open world street racing to the PlayStation platform and was an instant success. Racers would race unlicensed cars through New York and London taking on Hookmen, the best racers in the city, on a playlist of races to secure their spot as best in the city and earn a chance to challenge each City Champ and their Crew and finally the World Champion. What set it apart as well was the ability to race low-riders, trucks, sedans, and tuner cars. Vehicle damage was also an active part of the game.
Midnight Club 2 continued the success, released April 9, 2003, again with unlicensed vehicles. This version would introduce motorcycles to the mix as well as the highly anticipated online play. Just like its predecessor racers would find Hookmen and beat their crews to earn the right to challenge each City Champ and finally World Champ. Then they would take their skills online and face off against Crews in online and via for dominance there as well. Midnight Club 2 would add Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo to the mix.

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition and Dub Edition: Remix would add licensed vehicles to the game. Released on April 11, 2005 San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit were the new stomping Grounds, with Tokyo being added later. The characters took a back seat to the cars and their associated upgrades. Crews brought their rivalries with them and continued them online.
Midnight Club: Los Angeles attempted to take the game to a new level on a new platform and a large map. It was released January 20, 2008 and would have DLC added in the form of South Central. It was compatible with Rockstar Social Club and added track editing. The fueds between Crews continued. It was not without problems with releases. Finally the associated GameSpy hosts were shut down July 16, 2014 and the duals were finally over forever.
Although racing was available in Grand Theft Auto 4 it wasn't competitive. Grand Theft Auto 5 was released on September 17th, 2013 and online was released soon after in October. After a rocky start Crews were started, including a nod to The Midnight Club. Racers started jockeying for position, but due to anyone being able to race together it was necessary to form race associated Crews so that clean racers could have a refuge. Later the Race Creator was added. Still there is a void that Midnight Club had, the challenge of a player world outside what the basic game offered.
We continue this long tradition of player and crew driven competition by carrying the torch into the future and keeping a game thought dead by proving the ideal by which is started is very much alive. This sight is dedicated to bring back the Midnight Club mindset to Grand Theft Auto: Online.

As if the time of Midnight Club wasn't over, those on Xbox 1 had a chance to taste the rich history of MIdnight Club : Los Angeles when on June 7, 2018 the game was made backwards compatible. This also re-added online support and an influx of players took to the new system to play a great game. The update included the Complete Edition so new players and old were able to experience low-riders and a larger city layout.
What was truly amazing about the game is how well it had aged. Controls were still functional, open world, and excellently portrayed graphically. It definitely didn't feel like a game from 2008 and it breathed new life into the series.
